UFO: Enemy Unknown Gets A Remake

It's Christmas all over again! Firaxis Games (Civilization, Pirates) just announced that they are working on a faithful remake of XCOM: Enemy Unknown, one of the best strategy games of all time, in which you command a global defense force against armies of nasty aliens while trying not to lose funding from a coalition of countries who demand immediate results.

The remake will be true to the original — it will also combine turn-based tactical combat with real-time strategy and it will feature destructible environments and organizational improvements as players progress. Firaxis president Steve Martin emphasized their fondness for the original title in a recent interview to Game Informer magazine, saying:

It’s been a dream of ours to recreate XCOM with our unique creative vision. We’re huge fans of the original game and it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to re-envision a game that is as beloved as XCOM. We were careful to keep XCOM: Enemy Unknown true to the elements that made XCOM such a revered game while delivering an entirely new story and gameplay experience for both die-hard fans and newcomers to the franchise.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown comes out for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC this fall. Can't wait to play this game!
